Design of an own WWW-Homepage

Goal of the Praktikum

The essential goal of this Praktikum is that the participants become acquainted with the basics of WWW technology and be able to construct an own Homepage. For creating a homepage there are a number of technical and content related aspects but each participant has the liberty to compile own page freely. The final evaluation of the own WWW-Homepage will be made by the participants themselves.

Equipment Recommendation for Participation

During the afternoons of the PPS there will be a mix of teaching and hands-on practical excercises. To be able to well participate in the practical exercises, it is highly recommended that you bring your own laptop computer with you, equipped with a wireless LAN interface card.

Assignment

We do not want to specify exactly, how the own WWW-Homepage is to be arranged. Instead, we give a list of contents ("What information should be found on the homepage?") and techniques ("How the contents can be technically filled up?"), and the participants must pick the interesting aspects from this list out by themselves. However, an explanation is required to support the solutions chosen. What is important, by the end of the semester the participants should have a certain overview about the available techniques and familiarize themselves with some of them. Further suggestions for designing a homepage: just looking at the Web and browsing the source of different homepages can be useful ("Learning by Examples"), or completing one of the several on-line HTML courses on the web. Some other useful materials relevant to the Web in general and to HTML itself can be found under this link.
